Automatic zoom changed how product demos look. Instead of a full-screen capture where viewers hunt for the mouse, the video moves in on each click. Here are four tools that do it, compared on the things that usually decide the choice: your platform, your budget, and whether your recordings leave your machine.
Yes, Lensprout is our tool. We have tried to describe the others fairly, from their own sites, as they were on 18 October 2026. Each product changes often, so follow the source links before you decide.

Lensprout
A Chrome extension that records your screen or a window through Chrome’s picker, and turns clicks and typing on web pages into editable zooms. Everything happens on your device, every feature is free for everyone, and the code is MIT licensed. Extras include smart trim, a 3D stage with device frames, generated click and key sounds, presets, and vertical 9:16 fill. It does not have captions, share links or cursor smoothing, and its auto zoom only sees web pages in Chrome. It’s coming soon to the Chrome Web Store.
Best for: web app demos, people who can’t upload recordings, and anyone who wants a free tool they can inspect.
Cursorful
A Chrome extension (Chrome, Edge, Brave) with desktop apps for Mac and Windows on its Pro plan. Its site lists on-device captions, microphone denoising, automatic cropping and hiding the browser frame, with optional cloud links. The free plan is for non-commercial use; Pro adds commercial use, mic and camera, 4K and the desktop apps.
Best for: teams who want both a browser and a desktop recorder, with captions and links. Full comparison.
Screen Studio
A polished macOS app with cursor smoothing, webcam background removal, microphone noise reduction, MP4 up to 4K at 60 fps, GIFs, and hosted share links. It is macOS only, and its pricing is a subscription.
Best for: Mac users who record native apps and want the most polished result. Full comparison.
OpenScreen
An MIT-licensed Electron app for macOS, Windows and Linux with auto or manual zooms, webcam, microphone and system audio, and MP4 or GIF export. Its README now says it is archived and no longer maintained.
Best for: tinkerers who want a desktop recorder to fork. Full comparison.
How to choose
- Which apps do you record? Only websites: any of them works, and a browser extension is the lightest option. Native apps: you need a desktop app (Screen Studio, OpenScreen, or Cursorful’s Pro apps).
- What computer? Screen Studio is Mac only. The others run on more systems.
- Can recordings leave your machine? If not, pick a tool that renders locally and turn off any cloud features. Lensprout and OpenScreen have none.
- Budget and license? Lensprout and OpenScreen are free and MIT licensed. Cursorful’s free plan excludes commercial work. Screen Studio is a subscription.
